Consciously Chosen. Transparently Explained.

For us, responsible design begins with the choice of materials.

For many of our products, we rely on high-quality recycled materials, selected natural fibers, and certified fabrics. It is important to us not to simply advertise with terms like "sustainable," but to transparently show which materials we use and what lies behind them.

Different materials are used depending on the product. Therefore, you will always find the exact material composition directly on the respective product page.

ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon

ECONYL® is a regenerated nylon made from various nylon waste products.

This includes discarded fishing nets, carpet remnants, fabric scraps, and other industrial nylon waste.

The collected materials are cleaned and processed into new nylon through a regeneration process.

For us, ECONYL® is particularly exciting because it can be used to create high-quality, functional fabrics without exclusively relying on new fossil raw materials.

We use ECONYL® in selected swimwear products.

REPREVE®

REPREVE® is a recycled polyester fiber made, among other things, from used plastic bottles.

The bottles are collected, cleaned, and processed into polyester, which is then used to create new fibers and fabrics.

REPREVE® combines recycled material with the functional properties we need for swimwear and activewear.

Depending on the fabric, additional properties such as stretch, UV protection, or other performance features may be added.

We use REPREVE® in selected products from our collections.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a globally recognized label for textiles tested for harmful substances.

Certified textiles are tested for an extensive list of potentially harmful substances.

Not only the fabric itself, but also other components of the product are considered.

Selected products and materials from MAIN Design are tested or certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.

You will find the corresponding information directly with the product.

Organic Cotton

For selected products, we use organic cotton.

Organic cotton is grown according to ecological standards and does not use certain synthetic pesticides or genetically modified seeds.

It is soft, comfortable on the skin, and particularly suitable for products like towels, ponchos, or other textile accessories.

You can find out whether a product is made from organic cotton directly in the respective product description.

Recycled Cotton

For some products, we rely on recycled cotton.

Existing cotton fibers and textile production waste are reprocessed and used for new fabrics.

This allows existing resources to be used further and textile waste to be reduced.

Again, you will find the exact material composition directly with the respective product.

Recycled Materials – what does that actually mean?

Recycled materials are made from existing raw materials or waste that are reprocessed and reused.

For our materials, this can mean, for example:

  • used plastic bottles

  • discarded fishing nets

  • production waste

  • textile remnants

  • old nylon or cotton materials

This allows existing resources to be used longer and the demand for newly produced raw materials to be reduced.

However, recycled does not automatically mean "without environmental impact." Recycled materials also require energy for processing, dyeing, production, and transport.

Therefore, for us, sustainability involves more than just material selection.

Small Production Quantities

We consciously produce our collections in small quantities.

With this, we aim to avoid overproduction and not produce more than we actually need.

Many of our styles also accompany us over several seasons instead of being replaced after just a few months.

Our goal is products that you love to wear – and keep for as long as possible.

Production in Bali

Our swimwear and activewear are manufactured in small production facilities in Bali.

We have been working with our production partners for many years and maintain personal and long-term relationships.

Many steps are carried out by hand, and each collection is created in close collaboration between design and production.

For us, responsible production therefore means not only the choice of a material but also respectful and long-term partnerships.

1% for Healthy Seas

With 1% of our online sales, we support Healthy Seas.

Healthy Seas is committed to healthier oceans and, among other things, removes lost and abandoned fishing nets and other marine debris from the water.

With this, we want to give back a small part of what is particularly important to us as a surf and swimwear brand: the ocean.

Why don't we use the same material for every product?

A bikini has different requirements than a beach towel, a poncho, or a bag.

Therefore, we select materials based on what a product needs to be able to do – for example:

  • Elasticity

  • Shape retention

  • UV protection

  • Chlorine resistance

  • Feel on the skin

  • Breathability

  • Durability

We try to combine function, quality, and more responsible material choices as best as possible.

Our Ambition

We are not perfect – and we don't want to pretend to be.

Materials, production, and transport always have an impact on the environment.

Our ambition is therefore to make conscious decisions, develop durable products, and continuously improve our processes step by step.
